Melana will discuss filling workforce needs – is an apprenticeship the answer for your business? Apprenticeship models are popping up in numerous industries as a way to address the need for employees. In the last few years Nursing, IT, cyber security, electronics, business, and other apprenticeships have become a great option for employers. Find out how apprenticeship models work in the private sector and what it takes to launch an apprenticeship partnership with a college.

 About Melana:

Melana Howe provides resource development and is the Corporate Liaison /Apprenticeship Coordinator with Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. Affiliated with Lake Region State College for nearly ten years, Melana has been instrumental in research and development of current and new programs. Her skills include working with faculty, staff, and oversight of securing supportive funding often through her grant writing. Most recently she has developed the apprenticeship programs at LRSC, which are all in non-traditional careers including simulation, electro-mechanics, nursing and information technology, business, precision agriculture and others. Ultimately, LRSC can develop an apprenticeship in any career and align the related technical instruction with non-academic trainings or academic degrees.

Howe is currently the Project Manager for several apprenticeship development grants including a Bush Foundation Innovation grant and a U.S. Department of Labor grant on behalf of the N.D. Department of Career and Technical Education. Melana holds a degree in management of human resources and a master’s degree in administration. She also has a license as a registered nurse and worked many years in healthcare administration.
